This is what I see.
A cabal of multi-millionaires, without mandate or majority, exploiting a perfect storm of fear, instability and crisis to unleash a self-serving ideological agenda. Focusing a policy of dis-empowerment and abandonment of the poorest, weakest and most vulnerable, they gradually remove the re-assurance of civil support from as many as possible. Simultaneously, they manipulate legislation to favour those at the highest levels of the economic structure, who in turn, bank roll the cabal. The pace of this concerted campaign escalates with every passing week, while the economy sinks and shrivels for want of sensible, unifying and supportive thinking.
The cabal imposes its machinations on a populace frozen with bewilderment. Forces emboldened by conniving relationships and public money roll over the powerless individual and impotent family. Unimaginable fortunes and undeserved baubles are handed to flimsy executives who crash their enterprises and tear up their workforces. The young and redundant are demonised for predicaments they never created, which further justifies the removal of essential supporting networks. Even the dying are labelled as liabilities, as stress and indignity are loaded onto their pain and anxiety.
A wave of cynicism and contempt for the political class now engulfs the public, leaving democracy lop-sided and defusing the alternatives. In the meantime, Orwellian military adventures with ill-defined, opaque missions, throw out artificial notions of glory as soldiers invited to die are treated with contempt and threatened with redundancy at the stroke of a pen.
All notions of compassion, joy, encouragement and inspiration are roughly excised. Human spirit is crushed beneath the weighty demands and accusations of authority figures whose cosseted lives and fast-track careers ensure they will never feel the sting of their own austerity.
Hate, resentment, apprehension and blame abide. Community is set against community, fired up by blowhard commentators concerned with their profile, dismissive of others' wellbeing.
I see desperation and cruelty, vindictiveness and mendacity, poverty and distress. I see hope evaporate.
If I am wrong, show me.
But right now, this is what I see.
